Twiddle frontman Mihali joined G. Love for three songs at SPAC on Sunday night. Mihali’s guest spot came to end G. Love’s set opening for Dispatch and O.A.R. at the Saratoga Springs, New York venue.
Saratoga Springs holds a special place in G. Love’s (Garrett Dutton) heart as a former student at Skidmore College in town. Dutton discussed his time in Saratoga after kicking off his performance on Sunday with “Drinkin’ Wine” and “Rainbow.” The former was pulled from G. Love’s 2020 LP, The Juice, while the latter was featured on Jack Johnson’s soundtrack to Thicker Than Water. Garrett followed his Saratoga/Skidmore interlude with the song “The Juice” and the fan favorite “Rodeo Clowns” off 1999’s Phiadelphonic.
G. Love freestyle next and then lit into perhaps G. Love & Special Sauce’s signature song, “Baby’s Got Sauce.” Mihali then emerged for the remainder of the 30-minute set. The pair first offered up “Cold Beverage” from G. Love & Special Sauce’s 1994 self-titled debut album. Mihali was on acoustic guitar and played leads while Dutton sang, blew harmonica and focused on rhythm guitar. Next up was “Strongest Of Our Kind,” a song featured on the Twiddle frontman’s debut solo album, 2020’s Breathe And Let Go. G. Love contributed to the studio version included on the LP.
The duo closed out G. Love’s set with a take on the Grateful Dead classic “Casey Jones.” Mihali and Garrett shared lead vocal duties on the acoustic cover. Check out video clips captured by photographer Paul Citone of “Cold Beverage” and “Casey Jones” below:

O.A.R. and Dispatch have spent the last five weeks on a co-headlining tour featuring G. Love as support. The trek continues through September 10. All three acts pull into Lewiston, New York on Tuesday.
