Goose Debuts ‘It’s My Life’ Cover At Dillon Amphitheater

Goose continued their Colorado run by wrapping up their two-night stand at the idyllic Dillon Amphitheater. Goose unveiled a new cover, Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life,” during the second set.

Goose got the concert underway with the “California Magic,” which the band debuted earlier this year. Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda fired things up quickly with some smoking riffage on the bluesy tune. While keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach began the Wes Montgomery instrumental “Switchin’” on the six-string he also delivered a tasty Hammond organ solo, marking the first time he played keys on jazz standard.

Goose then embarked on a monster “Borne.” The quintet stretched the opening track on their recently released album, Dripfield, to 27 minutes which contained “Tumble” teases from Rick. Following another 2022 debuted song, “Dr. Darkness,” Goose took a 15-minute ride on the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” to close the first frame

The second set kicked off with Dripfield’s “Honeybee,” whcih saw the band’s road manager Jon “Coach” Lombardi adding some of his signature rainstick. Goose then took the favorite “Wysteria Lane” deep with a 21-minute excursion before debuting “It’s My Life.” The song originally appears on English new wave act Talk Talk’s 1984 album of the same name. No Doubt also had a hit with a cover of “It’s My Life” in 2003. Goose’s version saw Mitarotonda on lead vocals with Anspach joining him on the chorus and also adding some shimmering synth-scapes. Rick performed the song recently at the Bonnaroo SuperJam.

Next, the quintet offered “Rosewood Heart” before laying down “Rockdale.” A pairing of “Your Ocean” and 15-minute “Madhuvan” brought the second set to a close. Goose returned to encore with “Turned Clouds” from their 2016 debut LP, Moon Cabin, to bring their Dillon run to a close. Goose makes their debut at Red Rocks tonight.
