Greensky Bluegrass and The Wood Brothers’ joint tour stopped at the Ting Pavilion in Charlottesville, Virginia on Wednesday. GSBG welcomed Oliver Wood to debut John Prine’s “That’s the Way That The World Goes ‘Round.”
Greensky Bluegrass launched their set with the staple “Old Barns” followed by “Ashes,” from their 2019 album All For Money. “All Four” followed and led into Talking Heads’ “Road To Nowhere,” which the band had not performed since Camp Greensky last year for a gap of 82 shows, as per Phantasy Tour. Guitarist Dave Bruzza then helmed his “A Letter To Seymour.”
GSBG continued with the favorite “In Control” followed by the title track from All For Money. “Can’t Make Time” and “Take Cover” came next. Greensky Bluegrass then welcomed Oliver Wood to unveil a cover of John Prine’s “That’s the Way That The World Goes ‘Round.” Oliver played electric guitar as he led GSBG through the Prine classic from his 1978 album, Bruised Orange. Mandolinist Paul Hoffman and bassist Mike Devol joined Wood in harmony on the chorus.
Greensky then went it alone for a paring of the traditional “Reuben’s Train” and “Monument” from their 2022 album Stress Dreams. After “Like Reflections,” GSBG linked up “Less Than Supper” and “Run Or Die” to wrap the set. The band would return to encore with “Past My Prime” before bringing the evening to a close with Townes Van Zandt’s “White Freight Liner Blues.”
