60

A new all-star Jazz is Dead lineup will start a celebration of the project’s 25th anniversary with 15 tour dates in January of 2023. Founding member bassist Alphonso Johnson will team up with guitarists Steve Kimock and Bobby Lee Rodgers as well as drummer Pete Lavezzoli as the fifth and latest iteration of the Grateful Dead tribute act.

Jazz Is Dead XXV will honor the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s classic 1973 studio album Wake Of The Flood by performing songs featured on the LP along with “other beloved selections” from the GD catalog next January. Johnson has been a staple of all five Jazz Is Dead lineups, including the one that last toured in 2015. Steve Kimock previously played with Alphonso Johnson as part of post-Jerry Grateful Dead off-shoot The Other Ones in 2000.

The cross-country run starts in California with shows in San Juan Capistrano (January 10), Montclair (January 11), Agoura Hills (January 12) and San Francisco (January 13). Jazz Is Dead then hits Denver (January 15) and Phoenix (January 17) before a swing through Illinois featuring concerts in Des Plaines (January 20) and St. Charles (January 21).

The quartet brings their 25th Anniversary Tour to Cleveland on January 22. From there, Jazz Is Dead concludes the trek in the Northeast with shows in Boston (January 24); Glenside, Pennsylvania (January 25); Tarrytown, New York (January 26); New York City (January 27) and Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania (January 28).
