Jennifer Hartswick released “By The River,” a New Orleans-tinged single featuring guest trombonist Roy Agee as well as vocalists Shira Elias and Maureen Murphy. The track is latest taste of Hartswick’s Something In The Water album, due out via bassist Christian McBride‘s Mack Avenue Music Group imprint, Brother Mister Productions on September 9.

Dynamic vocalist and trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick enlisted friend and collaborator Nick Cassarino of The Nth Power to co-write and produce Something In The Water. The longtime Trey Anastasio Band member recorded the LP in her current hometown of Nashville at Sound Emporium with engineer Joe Costa. Contributors include McBride, Cassarino, Agee, Elias, Murphy, drummer Conor Elmes, vocalist Celisse Henderson, keyboardist Rob Marscher and trombonist Natalie Cressman.

“By The River” sees Jennifer duel with Agee as Shira Elias and Maureen Murphy sing harmony while Elmes keeps a sturdy beat. Hartswick shared the following in regards to the song which was premiered by Glide Magazine:

“I wrote By The River as a celebration of childhood. A celebration of the spirit of wonderment. I used to go out to the river and forests behind my house and sing Anita Baker songs as loud as I could! That’s where I cultivated who I would become.”
