Julian Lage released a new single, “Chavez.” The track is set for the jazz guitarist’s upcoming album, View With A Room, due out via Blue Note Records on September 16 and featuring renowned guitarist Bill Frisell.
Lage heralded View With A Room in July with the single, “Auditorium,” which also arrived with a live performance video featuring the guitarist’s rhythm section of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King. Lage followed with additional singles and performance videos for “Word For Word,” “Tributary” and now “Chavez.”
“’Chavez’ is definitely the song that has transformed the most from original inception to recording,” Lage wrote on Twitter. “I began writing it years ago and got excited about its driving nature and how it interacts with a more measured and unordained melodic development. In the hands of [Dave King], Jorge Roeder and Bill Frisell, this song found a home balanced between those worlds. ‘Chavez’ creates an improvisational environment that feels both liberating and integrated to the nature of the song. Also Dave’s intro absolutely kills me.
