Keller Williams recruited Steve Poltz for the next installment of his Shut The Folk Up & Listen concert series. The pair will present a “seated evening of songs and stories” at December tour dates in Massachusetts and at three East Coast cities in March 2023.
Shut The Folk Up & Listen was initially presented by Keller with Leo Kottke in 2016. Williams then enlisted Martin Sexton for a 2018 run. Read a description of the concept KDub wrote back in 2016 to announce the series:
“I take great pride in the evolution of my career. Between all the electronic toys and all the eclectic people that allow me into their worlds, this set goes back to the beginning. Guitar and microphone. Loopless. I focus on material that can be enjoyed while sitting and listening. Not necessarily slow songs but instrumentals and lyrics that are often overlooked when performed in venues with no seats. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy those venues and look forward to hopefully playing them for the rest of my life. This set focuses on the listening rather than the dancing and the socializing. You’ll hear songs you recognize and a few you won’t. I may even hit you up for a request. All in all, its a loose night in comfortable chairs with acoustic music. So shut the folk up and listen. Please. Kw”
Keller Williams and Steve Poltz bring Shut The Folk Up & Listen to Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Massachusetts on December 1 and The Center For Arts in Natick, Massachusetts on December 3. The location of a joint concert on December 2 will be announced soon.
The pair reunite for an additional three Shut The Folk Up & Listen shows in March. Up first is a concert at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia on March 3. Williams and Poltz then play City Winery venues in Philadelphia on March 4 and New York City on March 5. Tickets go on sale for all five shows this Friday, August 26.
