Neil Young and Promise of The Real shared audio featuring a live “Throw Your Hatred Down” performance from their 2019 European Tour. The cut appears on Noise & Flowers, a live album and concert film due to arrive via Reprise Records on August 5.
Noise & Flowers compiles 14 songs played by Young and company during their nine-show trek through Europe. The tour started two weeks after longtime Neil Young friend and manager Elliot Roberts died. Neil honored his pal over the course of the run.
“Playing in his memory [made it] one of the most special tours ever,” explained Neil Young in the album’s liner notes. “We hit the road and took his great spirit with us into every song. This music belongs to no one. It’s in the air. Every note was played for music’s great friend, Elliot.”
Noise & Flowers was previously previewed with video of “From Hank To Hendrix” from the concert film. Young originally released “Throw Your Hatred Down” on Mirror Ball, his 1995 album featuring members of Pearl Jam. Neil dusted off the song at the 2014 Bridge School Benefit for the first time since 2006 and its Young + POTR debut. “Throw Your Hatred Down” then went unplayed until the 2019 European Tour.
