Rage Against The Machine wrapped up the eventful North American leg of their Public Service Announcement reunion tour as well as a five-night run at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, with the band reporting that the MSG stint raised over $1 million for various charities. Tour mates Run The Jewels would collaborate with RATM for the final show on August 14 while the penultimate concert on August 12 saw RATM breaking out “Fistful Of Steel” for the first time in 25 years.
Rage Against The Machine stuck to a similar setlist for the tour and MSG run, full of stellar songs like opener “Bombtrack” as well as “People Of The Sun,” “Bulls On Parade,” “Testify,” “Guerrilla Radio,” “Sleep Now In The Fire,” “Know Your Enemy,” closer “Killing In The Name” and more. The band also offered a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost Of Tom Joad.”
But RATM nearly always had a surprise in store each night. Friday, August 12 boasted a bust out of “Fistful Of Steel.” According to SetlistFM stats, Rage last played the track from their 1992 self-titled debut album in 1997.
As he’s done since injuring his leg in Chicago early on in the tour, vocalist Zach de la Rocha performed seated but still conjured a characteristically fiery performance backed by his longtime bandmates drummer Brad Wilk, bassist Tim Commerford and guitarist Tom Morello, with the latter delivering a pair of wild solos one using a slide and one laced with laser-like effects.
