Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at Atlanta, GA’s Truist Park, home of the Braves, on Wednesday. The band played a set loaded with classic hits following an opening set from indie rock icons The Strokes.
The Strokes got the night started walking out to Kraftwerk‘s “Kometenmelodie 2”. They played a mix of songs from their early 2000’s heyday like “Reptilia”, off of 2003’s Room on Fire, and selections from their most recent album, The New Abnormal, including “Bad Decisions” and “The Adults Are Talking”. Many of the songs on the setlist were culled from 2001’s Is This It, among them “Hard to Explain”, “New York City Cops”, “Take It or Leave It”, and the set-closing “Someday”.
After The Strokes’ opening set, Red Hot Chili Peppers busted onto the stage and launched into an intro jam that ultimately gave way to a funky “Around the World”. Next came “Dani California”, off 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, and “Scar Tissue”, from 1999’s Californiacation. The band then played the first song of the night from the recently released Unlimited Love, “Aquatic Mouth Dance”. “These Are The Ways”, “The Heavy Wing”, and “Black Summer” were also pulled from the band’s most recent album. The Chili Peppers didn’t shy away from the older stuff, though. “Suck My Kiss” and “Give It Away” from 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magic and “Nobody Weird Like Me” from 1989’s Mother’s Milk all appeared in the main set, along with other fan-favorites like “Snow (Hey Oh)”, “Tell Me Baby”, and “Californication”.
For the encore, the Chili Peppers came out swinging with “Sir Psycho Sexy”, which they followed up with a cover of Robert Johnson‘s “They’re Red Hot”. They then closed out the night with “By the Way”.
