Watch Cory Wong Perform 14-Minute ‘Meditation’ At Brooklyn Steel

Cory Wong premiered pro-shot video of a 14-minute “Meditation.” The footage comes from the guitarist and his band’s sold-out performance at Brooklyn Steel in New York City on February 4.

“Meditation” is the opening track on Wong’s Grammy-nominated collaborative album, Meditations, with keyboardist Jon Batiste. Cory detailed the extended 14-minute performance of the song at Brooklyn Steel earlier this year:

“There’s something about performing ‘Meditation’ live where it feels like an intimate/holy moment in the show. It’s such a simple melody, but it seems to be one that resonates the deepest with the audience. Then it launches into an open guitar solo where I get to express a different side of my musical voice than people typically know me for. This is the title track from the Grammy nominated album I recorded with Jon Batiste, and the song continues to morph and go on it’s own journey. That night was one of the first times we also started adding an extended piano outro that takes different harmonic twists and turns night after night. It was a dream to play in front of a sold out crowd at Brooklyn Steel coming back for our first tour after ‘the thing’. We still don’t take for granted how special it is to be able to gather as performer and audience in the same room.”

The lineup for Wong’s band included drummer Petar Janjic, bassist Sonny T and percussionist Nêgah Santos as well as a horn section of Eddie Barbash, Kenni Holmen, Sam Greenfield, Jay Webb and Michael Nelson.
