Beck issued a cover of Neil Young’s 1972 classic “Old Man” as a standalone single. The gorgeous, threadbare take on the song Young originally released on his iconic Harvest album was debuted as part of a promo that was featured on NFL Sunday Night Football last night.
NBC aired a commercial for the next installment of Sunday Night Football in which footage of Beck performing “Old Man” was mixed with clips of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady in action. The line of the song “24 and there’s so much more” was the focus of the promo as both quarterbacks won the Super Bowl at the age of 24. Mahomes and the Chiefs take on Brady and the Bucs in the game airing on NBC’s NFL Sunday Night Football this coming Sunday, October 2.
Beck was among Gorillaz’s guests at The Kia Forum near Los Angeles on Friday. He’s slated to hit the road in support of Arcade Fire from October 27 through December 3.
