Bob Weir & Wolf Bros offered another preview of Live In Colorado Volume 2 on Friday with “The Other One”. Recorded live on June 11th at Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, the live cut will appear on the upcoming album documenting the Grateful Dead guitarist’s return to live performances last year with a four-night run across Colorado.
Clocking in at nearly 14-minutes, Bob Weir, Don Was, Jay Lane, and Jeff Chimenti take their time on this one, augmented by Greg Leisz on pedal steel, along with The Wolfpack featuring Alex Kelly, Brian Switzer, Adam Theis, Mads Tolling, and Sheldon Brown. While Bobby’s Wolf Bros originally began as a trio for the spiritual cowboy to explore his folksinger persona, the ensemble has evolved through the years and emerged out the other side as something totally unrecognizable from where it started. A tight rhythm section joins forces with a stable of horns, one of the most versatile pianists in the jam world, and a pedal steel guitarist for good measure to form a band that represents the poles at either end of the Grateful Dead spectrum.
A sequel to Live In Colorado released back in February, Volume 2 captures Weir’s first live concerts after emerging from COVID lockdowns. The run began at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison (June 8th–9th) before continuing on to Gerald R. Ford in Vail (June 11th–12th). In addition to signaling Bobby’s return to the stage after more than a year away, the shows also marked Wolf Bros’ first execution of the full Terrapin Station suite, which the band stretched over the two nights at Red Rocks before piecing the full movement together for the final night in Vail. After failing to appear on the first Live In Colorado, the second volume features the orchestral centerpiece to the Dead’s 1977 album of the same name in its entirety.
