Doom Flamingo Announces ‘In The Rain’ Live Album

36

Doom Flamingo will release its debut live album, In The Rain, on Friday, October 7. The album was culled from live recordings of the Charleston, South Carolina-based band’s Summer Tour 2022.

Doom Flamingo consists of bassist Ryan Stasik of Umphrey’s McGee, frontwoman Kanika Moore, saxophonist Mike Quinn, guitarist Thomas Kenney, keyboardist Ross Bogan and drummer Sean Bing.

“Front to back, [In The Rain] encompasses sexiness and darkness,” Stasik said, “all the while making you dance and groove.”

The live release pulls from performances held this summer at The Charleston Pour House, 5 Points Music Sanctuary and The White Water Center in Charlotte, as well as the Peach Music Festival and Summer Camp Music Festival. The album was mixed from 32-track masters by Coast Records’ Matt Zutell and mastered by Matt Garber of For the Record.

“The songs on this album are from shows that, in one way or another, were affected by rain,” Bogan said. “The impetus for the album was to share our favorite performances from such a magical run. We didn’t realize until after the fact that the rain played a huge factor in each.”

The live album follows a pair of studio singles issued this year, “Happy Boi” and “Lux Noir,” In the Rain includes a live recording of “Lux Noir” alongside other originals such as “F-16” and “Runaway.” Among the covers included are Doom Flamingo’s takes on Tears for Fears’ “Mad World,” Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

“Studio Doom Flamingo and live Doom Flamingo are two very different things even though they are born of the same heart and ambition,” Quinn said. They manifest themselves in different creative ways.”
