The Grateful Dead‘s Meet-Up At The Movies series returns to theaters worldwide for a 2022 installment on Tuesday, November 1 with more screenings slated for Saturday, November 5 at theaters in the U.S., Canada and select territories. This year’s selection is the band’s April 17, 1972 show at Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark to honor the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s historic Europe ’72 Tour.

A Grateful Dead lineup featuring guitarists Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, drummer Bill Kreutzmann, keyboardists Ron “Pigpen” McKernan and Keith Godchaux, bassist Phil Lesh and vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux brought their 1972 tour of Europe to Tivoli Concert Hall for the second time on April 17, 1972. The show marked the sixth show of the trek and third in Denmark. Tivoli Concert Hall previously hosted the band on April 14, 1972.

The group’s return to Tivoli Concert Hall on April 17, 1972 came to tape an appearance on Danish television with a portion broadcast live. Additionally, the concert marked the band’s first major live concert broadcast in any location and first in Danish television history. Footage of the original broadcast has been fully restored and color corrected in High Definition for the upcoming screenings. Jeffrey Norman mixed the audio from the original master tapes. Nearly 90 minutes of the concert will be screened at Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies 2022.

The show included the Grateful Dead’s debut live “He’s Gone” performance with “China Cat Sunflower,” “Ramble On Rose,” “Jack Straw” and “Truckin’” among other highlights featured in the broadcast. Pigpen was in the midst of what would be his final GD tour and led the group on three songs. “Hurts Me Too,” which kicks off the broadcast, was one of them. Revisit the historic concert by reading Andy Kahn’s Remembering Europe ’72 article regarding the show. The Grateful Dead’s Europe ’72 Tour was documented in the triple live album, Europe ’72, which arrived in October of 1972.

Tickets go on sale next Friday, September 23 at 10 a.m. ET. Follow this link to purchase Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies 2022 tickets.
