King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard To Release 3 Albums In October

43

Idle hands are the devil’s playthings, but King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have kept theirs very busy prepping three new albums for release in October. The yet-untitled LPs will bring the band’s grand total of albums for 2022 to five, tying 2017 as its most productive year.

The releases were confirmed by the band via a post on social media. A photo shows frontman Stu Mackenzie, keyboardist/harmonica player Kenny Ambrose-Smith, and drummer Michael Cavanaugh all holding blurred-out albums. The caption provided little additional details, other than that the band is “REALLY excited to show you all” the albums that will all be available for pre-order simultaneously on October 7th. Pre-orders through the Gizzverse will begin at 10 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 8 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), 5 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), and 1 p.m. British Summer Time (BST).

King Gizzard had originally teased the release of new music in June during an appearance on Australian radio station triple j, saying there were a “couple of” new albums “locked away.” The band then cemented this promise later that month by tweeting “3 more albums this year.”

The news comes less than five months after the release of Omnium Gatherum, the band’s 20th album and first double LP. This year also witnessed the release of the vinyl-only Made In Timeland in March, and the Butterfly 3001 remix of 2021’s Butterfly 3000 in January. With the arrival of the three albums in October, KGLW will have matched their prolifically productive 2017 output when the band challenged itself to deliver Flying Microtonal Banana in February, Murder Of The Universe in June, the Sketches Of Brunswick East collaboration with Mild High Club in August, Polygondwanaland in November, and Gumboot Soup in December.

Last month, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard were forced to cancel their remaining European and U.K. tour dates as Mackenzie addressed a health emergency related to his Crohn’s disease. The band is set to return to the stage on September 30th at Desert Daze in Perris, CA. For tickets and a full list of tour dates visit the band’s website.
