Little Feat shared a video honoring their departed members featuring a live recording of the Feat classic “Time Loves A Hero.” The audio was captured on July 21 at Cincinnati’s Taft Theatre on this year’s Waiting For Columbus 45th Anniversary Tour.
“Time Loves A Hero” served as the title track to Little Feat’s 1977 studio album, the tour for which spawned the concerts where the band’s landmark 1978 live album Waiting For Columbus was captured. Bill Payne, Kenny Gradney and Paul Barrere co-wrote “Time Loves A Hero.”
Barrere passed away in 2019, and the new “Time Loves A Hero” video — which features a collage of band photos and artwork throughout the years — also honors frontman Lowell George, who sadly died in 1979, and drummer Richie Hayward, who passed away in 2010. Addtionally, the YouTube notes for the video acknowledge the contributions of former members Craig Fuller, Shaun Murphy, Gabe Ford and Roy Estrada. Payne shared his thoughts on the tribute with Relix, who premiered the video:
“The ‘Time Loves A Hero’ video represents a legacy going back well over 50 years. We honor Lowell George, Richie Hayward, Paul Barrere and everyone that has taken part in this journey. For all the fans, friends, and families of Little Feat, this video is dedicated to you. Our legacy is tied directly to all of you. I know that Lowell, Richie, and Paul will be forever in our hearts. You will always be in the band’s heart, as well. Thanks for allowing the music we all love to continue and grow. Time loves a hero, indeed.”
