Marcus King brought out opener Neal Francis for collaborations in Washington D.C. on Saturday and Boston on Sunday. The keyboardist sat-in with King and his band during their encores at The Theatre at MGM National Harbor and at the House Of Blues Boston as part of Marcus’ extensive fall tour in support of his recently released album, Young Blood.
The guitarist started each encore with solo acoustic performances of “Goodbye Carolina” off The Marcus King Band’s 2018 LP, Carolina Confessions. Neal Francis then came out to join the MKB for The Beatles classic “Hey Bulldog.” Marcus and Neal shared vocal duties on the gem the Fab Four originally recorded for the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. The Chicago-based musician stuck around to contribute to “The Well,” a song featured on King’s debut solo album, 2020’s El Dorado. Both King and Francis took solos on “The Well” finale at each stop.

Neal Francis and Ashland Craft are aboard as support for most dates of Marcus King’s Young Blood Fall Tour 2022. Each show also features standup by comedian Dean Delray. Francis treated fans in Boston to a set focusing on material from his 2021 LP, In Plain Sight. Neal played “Sentimental Garbage” within the frame. The song is the title track off an EP due out in November.
Marcus King loaded his Beantown performance with songs from Young Blood. The guitarist went with “It’s Too Late,” the album’s opening track, to start his set. Nine other cuts featured on the LP were played in Boston, including “Hard Working Man,” “Whisper,” “Aim High,” “Pain” and the “Lie Lie Lie” that closed the frame. King also worked in El Dorado gems “Wildflowers & Wine,” “One Day She’s Here” and “Young Man’s Dream” as well as “Virginia” from the MKB’s self-titled studio album. Additionally, The Marcus King Band offered takes on Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers To Cross” and Marvin Gaye’s “Trouble Man.”
