Wilco welcomed Margo Price to share the stage on Wednesday at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver. Price teamed with the band on original “Falling Apart (Right Now)” and a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “U.S. Blues” during Wilco’s encore at the scenic Colorado venue.
Margo was on hand as the opening act for Wilco’s return to Red Rocks last night. Wednesday marked Jeff Tweedy & Co.’s 10th concert at the legendary open-air amphitheatre. The sextet turned in a 24-song performance on the Rocks.
Wilco has been touring in support of their recently released Cruel Country album. Tweedy and his bandmates kicked off their performance with A Ghost Is Born standout “Handshake Drugs” before looking to their latest LP for “I Am My Mother” and title track “Cruel Country.” Six other songs from the record made the setlist at Red Rocks, including the aforementioned “Falling Apart (Right Now).”
“Cruel Country” was followed by the beloved “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” off Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The album, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, was also represented by “War On War,” “Jesus, Etc.,” “Heavy Metal Drummer” and “I’m The Man Who Loves You” last night. Wilco’s main set had a number of additional classics within such as “Via Chicago,” “Hummingbird,” “Impossible Germany,” “California Stars” and the “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” which closed the frame.
Price emerged with Wilco for the start of their encore. Margo helped sing “Falling Apart (Right Now)” and “U.S. Blues.” Wilco debuted the Grateful Dead cover this past Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jeff Tweedy initially performed the song during his Philco collaboration with Phil Lesh & Friends at last month’s Sacred Rose festival. Margo participated as a guest with Philco but was not on stage for “U.S. Blues” at the event in Bridgeview, Illinois. Wilco went sans Price for the “I Got You (At The End Of The Century) that ended last night’s show.
