NFL Football is back! Today marks the start of the 2022 NFL Season when the first game kicks off tonight as the Buffalo Bills take on the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The Rams are hoping to repeat their 2021 championship season and win back-to-back Super Bowls.
How the Rams and the rest of the teams in the NFL fare this season will soon be determined by what happens on the field from week to week. JamBase surveyed football-loving musicians about their favorite NFL team and asked them to share predictions for how the season will play out. Respondents were also asked about their participation in Fantasy Football, with those who play passing along tips and insights into their Fantasy teams and leagues.

The Jets are my team, and at this point it’s their consistent inability that makes them special.

I don’t want to be boring here but I don’t really play favorites in this era. If I had to pick one player, league-wide, who is my favorite I would probably take Colin Kaepernick.

Still gotta go with Kaepernick.

Yes.
What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
The Disco Puppies. I started playing with the manager for Snarky Puppy as my teammate but eventually took the team over by myself. My other team name is Disco Donuts. The OG team has been renamed as Bender Reveal Party which is a reference to our commissioner Howard Bender from fantasyalarm.com.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
If I knew that I would win every year.

Some notable coaches are Ari Fink [SiriusXM], Chris Kuroda [Phish LD], Jonathan the general Schwartz [SiriusXM], Bob Wischusen from ESPN, Steve Gardner from USA Today, Chris Weaver from NFL Films, Ryan Stasik [Umphrey’s McGee], Al Schnier [moe.] and George Gekas [The Revivalists] all have teams as well.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
The draft is this week!

I won the championship two years ago, at long last.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
The Buffalo Bills. We were fortunate enough to be in Buffalo during the Jim Kelly Super Bowl era. Despite their tragic losses, it was still a great time to be a Bills fan. Buffalo is a city with a big heart and a lot of that resonated with our band.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
Same as always – anything is possible until the final second of the game [laughs].
What will their record be?
Better than last year.
Will they make the playoffs?
Let’s just say the Bills look very good – and we’re undefeated [laughs].
Who do you think will make the Superbowl this year?

The good guys.
Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
Josh Allen. He’s an incredible athlete, has great sportsmanship and seems to be a really good human being.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Scott Norwood. I have an odd fascination with kickers and that man is a hero in Buffalo – all jokes aside.
Do you play Fantasy Football?
Yes sir (I’m currently in four leagues).
What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
They range from inside family jokes to the inappropriate [laughs]. In the moe. League my team name is “Buffa-Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys.”
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
Josh. No doubt.

In the moe.league we have 10. In others (like the Jam On league) there are 12.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
I actually have two back-to-back tonight. Plans? Utica Club [laughs].

Several times – yet continue to come in second or third in the Jam On League every year. I’m pretty sure Brownie is paying off the commissioner [laughs].

Pittsburgh Steelers. I was born there and I bleed black and gold.

“Luscious Stallion” … I dabbled in porn while living in Mexico in my 20s. It was my stage name.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
Najee Harris.
How many teams are in your Fantasy league and who are the other coaches?
Which league? I’m in 5 of them! Too many [coaches] to list. Family league, College league, Umphrey’s league, Jam On league, my gym league. I will win in every league this year. Yep, five trophies. It’s a lock.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
Just normal drafts on Zoom with some beers, pretty much all on Tuesday or Wednesday before game day.

Duh, I’ve won many. I’m the best.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Philadelphia Eagles. I grew up here and this is a huge sports town.
What’s your prediction for your team this season? What will their record be? Will they make the playoffs?
11 – 6 and they win the NFC East.
Who will win the Superbowl?
I think [the Eagles] have a legit shot at going all of the way.
Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
Jason Kelce. He’s a maniac and his Super Bowl victory speech is legendary here in Philly.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Marshawn Lynch — one of the funniest dudes to play the game and an incredible running back. Check out his web series No Script. Fucking hilarious.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Tennessee Titans. Hometown team! I’ve had the opportunity to sing the anthem at Nissan Stadium among others.

Playoff-bound baby! The recent playoff expansion helps.
What will their record be?

Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
Derrick Henry from the Titans. He was on pace to lead the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns until his injury last season. King Henry for the W.

Scott McBrien (my brother-in-law who played QB for the Packers!).

No, but I keep up with Kaitlyn and Kyle’s picks [see below] while we are watching the games on the bus.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Cincinnati Bengals. I grew up close to Cincinnati and I’m a hopeless, die-hard fan like my father and grandfather.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
Realistically I think we can make the playoffs by winning our division. And hey with a little luck maybe even make the Super Bowl again for back to back appearances!!

Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
Joe Burrow. Joe grew up in the county next to mine. It’s a tough life and hard to break out of but he’s done it with great success! He’s also given back so much to that community in south central Ohio by building new schools and a football stadium. Funneling in money to help the community thrive. I love when professional athletes are selfless with their earnings and give back whenever they can. And when athletes appreciate their roots and give back to the communities that helped shape them into the player and person they are now.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Joe Burrow (see above).
Do you play Fantasy Football?
Yes.
What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
This year I think it’s going to be “Huck It Chuck It Footbawl.” It’s a line from the movie Zach and Miri Make a Porno.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
Derek Henry for sure. I’d like to see Russell Wilson have some success in Denver and my boy Jamar Chase racking up them receiving yards!

This year I believe it’s 10 teams. Kaitlyn here is one of the coaches. And the others are our friends from college, MTSU.

Sunday, September 4th. Kaitlyn and I will have to FaceTime or Skype as we’ll be on the road [laughs]. But it’s on an off day so we can be purely focused on Fantasy Football!

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Atlanta Falcons. I grew up in Atlanta going to games with my Dad and was hooked from the beginning!
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
To be honest it’s really hard to say what is going to happen this year. Sadly we traded our longtime quarterback Matt Ryan to the Colts during the offseason, but acquired ex-Titans QB Marcus Mariota and rookie QB Desmond Ridder … so it should be interesting to see how that plays out and who ends up keeping the starting position. Also losing Calvin Ridley to a year-long suspension for gambling is going to hurt … we have Kyle Pitts to lean on but I’m not sure it will be enough offensively. I would definitely consider this to be a rebuilding year, but I’m hoping they will surprise me this season.
What will their record be?
I want to stay positive but realistically probably something around 5-12 in the regular season.
Will they make the playoffs?
Not likely.
Who do you think will make the Superbowl this year?

Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
I would have to agree with Kyle and say Joe Burrow for all of the reasons above.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Matt Ryan. I think he’s one of the most underrated QBs and I’ve loved watching his career with the Falcons… 2016 MVP and four-time Pro Bowler, among many other awards. I will miss seeing him in red and black this season, but wish him all the best with the Colts. “Matty Ice” deserves a ring.

I’m still searching for the perfect team name this year… it used to be “Game of Jones” in reference to ex-Falcons player Julio Jones and Game of Thrones.

Derek Henry is always a solid choice, but I think Jonathan Taylor is going to be lights out this season. I’ve had him on my team the past two years and he has always been solid. Also the Colts have improved their offense this year so he should have plenty of Red Zone opportunities.

Da Bears! I grew up in Illinois and have always just been a [Chicago] Bears fan.

Strong chance it’ll be another tough season for Chicago.

I’d love it if we won 10+ games, but that’s highly unlikely.

I doubt we’ll make the playoffs this year, but hey, there’s always next year!

Man, it’s hard to bet against [Tamba Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom] Brady being in the Super Bowl, but, I think the LA Rams make it back this year. And I would love to see Buffalo in the Super Bowl, but I think Cincinnati will make it back as well.

I think Cincinnati takes it this year. But anything could happen!

Spafford has put together a fantasy league with our fans for the last 2 years. 4 leagues to be exact with each band member having their own league. It’s a lot of fun! Each league has 16 teams this year!

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Buffalo Bills. This is a controversial thing to say, but I’d argue that they’re Canada’s team. Our drummer Tim lives in Fort Erie – right across the border from Chicago – and he and his entire street go to all the Bills games. Buffalo is a helluva place, and small towns deserve nice things. Josh Allen has made our lives 100% more fun.

Randy Moss. As a child, I was very obsessed with Randy Moss. I saved up all my money to buy his jersey with the Vikings. No one made the catches with relative ease in the way Randy could.

NO. It’s too stressful. I resigned many years ago because it would take up too much of my day. Then I would sign up and be the delinquent person who’d forget to participate. I am a net negative in Fantasy sports. Same with gambling. It’s too much. I do like being around my friends who are gambling on the game. My buddy Brent won $1,500 at the Superbowl last year (we got to go to the game) when he bet on [Rams wide receiver] Cooper Kupp to win MVP. It was a big moment.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Favorite team has got to be our hometown Buffalo Bills. Buffalo loves their sports and the Bills are at the top of the list here, whether good or (notoriously long playoff drought) bad. I’m sure it’s like this everywhere, but with Buffalo being a smaller sports city, it seems like the city is a ghost town when the Bills play. I have lots of fond memories watching the Bills on Sundays then playing football outside with my dad in crisp Fall weather or watching the game at friend’s garages and houses. The Bills really mean a lot to the area.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
There’s a lot of hype around Buffalo and nationally that this is the year for the Bills! Everyone is amped up and they’re looking primed for a deep season. Lookout for JA17 and our D-line is looking downright nasty. Also, looking for Bills Mafia to make some headlines too!
What will their record be?
Undefeated! But realistically I think the Bills can definitely go 12 – 6

Absolutely!

Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
Josh Allen. The guy is a beast and is always going at 100%. Buffalo, for the better part of what feels like forever, has always had this underdog attitude and when Allen was drafted, nobody was talking about him being “the guy.” He came in, did the work, and proved everybody wrong. Plus, he talks golf trash to Tom Brady, automatic win!
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
All-time favorite player is tough. I remember being a kid and making a Bruce Smith jersey, but also how could you not love Jerry Rice!
Do you play Fantasy Football?
I’m not currently playing in any leagues, but I used to play. I won it all one year and then decided to go out on top! The band was starting to pick up touring and I just didn’t have the time for it. Though, I might be ready to jump in again soon.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
If I was playing, I would wanna get Justin Jefferson and Josh Allen. I think D’Andre Swift will have a great year too. I was always big on the waivers as the season goes on and finding some sleepers.

I only won once and went out on top!
Tommy Weeks (Funky Dawgz / Sophistafunk)
What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
I was born a [New York] Jets fan, my dad used to take me to all the games starting from when I was still in diapers. He and his buddies had season tickets and bought a mini school bus, painted it green, ripped out the seats inside and put a TV, surround sound, and kegerator in among other things. It was epic, we even had some of the old players stop by the tailgates to check it out a few times.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
The Jets have lots of young talent and newer coaches. The culture of the team has shifted in the last few years so they are trending upward.
What will their record be?

Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
I really like watching Elijah Moore WR on the Jets. He’s not the biggest as far as receivers go, but hes extremely quick.

Wayne Chrebet! A Jets legend, undrafted out of Hofstra and earned a roster spot as a walk on which is pretty unheard of. Then proceeded to become one of the most clutch players in team history. I love underdogs.

What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
Pretty boring, it’s just “Tweeks Tweeks.”
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
If its a PPR league you want receivers since it’s points per reception, Cooper Kupp, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase will stack points.
How many teams are in your Fantasy league and who are the other coaches?
10 team league – some friends from high school are the other coaches.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
We drafted two nights ago; we were all in the chat saying very nice things to each other [laughs].
Have you ever won a championship?
I’ve made it to the championship many times but have only won one time. This year will be my second.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
My favorite NFL team is the New England Patriots. Though I live in Jacksonville now, I grew up in Massachusetts and lived there for 15 years before moving to Florida. I come from a big sports loving family so Pats games on Sunday were always and still are a mandatory watch.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
They aren’t the powerhouse Patriots of old but I think Mac Jones in his second year can take a big step forward at QB and I think the offense around him has improved. New England’s defense is also solid every year.
What will their record be?

Will they make the playoffs?
I believe they will make the playoffs but the division is really tough this year so fingers are crossed [laughs].
Who do you think will make the Superbowl this year?
Denver Broncos vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Who will win the Superbowl?
It’s Brady’s last year officially in my opinion. I don’t think he would come back unless he thought he could go out winning the Super Bowl. Tampa Bay Buccaneers will win it this year.
Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
My current favorite NFL player is Derrick Henry. Henry grew up in the town next to mine in Florida and I saw him play football a few times in high school. He’s constantly proving people wrong and he’s one of the most fun backs to watch in the NFL right now. He is absolutely dominant on the football field.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
My all time favorite NFL player is obviously Tom Brady. I know it’s cliche but I grew up idolizing this guy. His work ethic and passion for his craft is extremely inspiring.
Do you play Fantasy Football?
Yes I love playing fantasy football, I’ve been in a 14 man league for the last 7 years.
What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
My team name used to be “one for the thumb” which was because of my hope that Brady would get his fifth Super Bowl win but now he has 7 and I’ve yet to change the name haha. Pure laziness on my part. I need to come up with one soon because we just had our draft this past weekend.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
I think if Christian Mccaffrey can stay healthy all year he will be the top scorer. He is completely game script proof and is the focal point of the Panthers offense.
How many teams are in your Fantasy league and who are the other coaches?
I play in a 14 man league with my friends from high school.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
Every year we make it a priority to have an in-person draft. This year’s draft was in Tampa.
Have you ever won a championship?
I have never won the league but I am feeling very good about my team this year.
Robbie Kingsley (The Hails)

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
Carolina Panthers. Being a little kid in North Carolina whose life revolved around sports I quickly identified with the Panthers, and their playoff run up to Super Bowl 38 is cemented in my brain as a key part of my fandom. Even after moving to Tampa right before middle school, I couldn’t give up my love for the Panthers despite being surrounded by Bucs die-hards.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
Not too thrilled that Baker Mayfield is an upgrade over Sam Darnold, but alas, it’s still an upgrade.
What will their record be?
I have some hope for an improved team but I think reality puts us somewhere around 8 wins.
Will they make the playoffs?
Unfortunately, playoffs are not in the cards.
Who do you think will make the Superbowl this year?
Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Who will win the Superbowl?
Buffalo is way too talented to not win the AFC this year and the NFC barely has any contenders so I’ll bet on Brady and [the Buccaneers’] defense.
Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
DJ Moore. Elite talent for Carolina over the last few years and seems like a genuinely humble dude. Plus he breaks up fights between fans in the stands.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Steve Smith. Cam Newton came close but I’ll always be a Steve Smith ride or die. Smitty put the Panthers on the map and made me a football fan for life. His highlight reel is loaded, his TD celebrations were unmatched (yes, better than Chad Johnson), and he gave me his gloves at my first Bucs-Panthers game. Hands down, the greatest.

My team names always switch up depending on who’s on my team. Hoping to do something Griddy-related this year if I get Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase. Last year I had a team named Space Cowboy Gunslingers in honor of Josh Allen.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
Christian McCaffrey, barring injury, is easily number one. Jonathan Taylor is great too and seems to be this year’s consensus top pick but nobody can put up points like a fully healthy CMC. My big sleeper pick is George Pickens, his training camp performance has been insane.
How many teams are in your Fantasy league and who are the other coaches?
I have a 10 team league with all my childhood friends that’s going into year 12 and then my other league was started in college heading into year 9. Funny how fantasy football is such a good way to keep friends together.
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
For both leagues we try to get as many people together as possible. Last year, one of the leagues met up in a cabin in northern Georgia to draft. We might have done more drinking than drafting but it was a great time overall. This year will probably be much chiller.
Have you ever won a championship?
I’ve won both my leagues once. 2015 and 2016 were the greatest years of my life because of these championship titles. I started up a dynasty league last year with some other mates and I won the inaugural season so I’m hoping that luck continues.

What’s your favorite NFL team and what makes them special to you?
I grew up around Shreveport, Louisiana which is that no-mans-land between Cowboys and Saints fans, since it’s a lot closer to Dallas. My mom is a Cowboys fan and me and my dad are Saints fans. But, I also grew up in the ’80s when it was really hard to be a Saints fan. Maybe that’s why I only write sad songs.
Two of my fondest memories from the early 2000s were watching the Saints beat the Falcons on Monday Night Football in their first game back home after Katrina, and watching my dad dance around in the yard like a kid on Christmas when they won the Super Bowl in 2010.
What’s your prediction for your team this season?
[Laughs] I’ve been seasoned to not get my hopes up any year, but we’ll see. It’s a new era without [quarterback Drew] Brees and [head coach Sean] Payton, so it’ll be interesting to watch’em start with a fresh sheet. But if I’m calling Vegas, I’ll say nine wins and a playoff spot.
Who do you think will make the Super Bowl this year?
My heart says Saints vs. Titans, but my wallet says Cincinnati Bengals vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Who will win the Super Bowl?
Saints [laughs]. Come on, they’re due another one… But once again, if I have to pick honestly, I’ll say the Bengals.
Who is your current favorite NFL Player and why?
It’d be hard to choose a favorite, actually. If you made me, I’d probably say J.J. Watt. Seems like a solid guy.
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
I’d have to say Demetric Evans, defensive end for the Cowboys, Redskins, and 49ers. We went to high school together.
Do you play Fantasy Football?
I actually don’t. Never really got into it, but a funny story – my mom is a walking-talking sports almanac and, up until a couple of years ago, managed like 6 – 8 teams every season. I can give her a call if y’all need some help choosing your team?

The Dallas Cowboys … America’s Team … loved them since I was a boy. Growing up in South Carolina we had three channels and the Cowboys were on every week … so that was it!

Deebo Samuel … Deebo, like me, is a South Carolina Gamecock so that alone is a big reason I love watching him play, but honestly since his days at SC Deebo has always been a guy that you can’t help but cheer for because of the passion, grit and absolute love for the game he shows. I mean… hell I am a life long Cowboys fan and Deebo makes me cheer for one of our most hated rivals the Niners… that alone should tell ya just how special a player Deebo Samuel is for the game of football!
Who is your all-time favorite NFL Player and why?
Probably Emmitt Smith… he was just the guy… you always knew that if Emmitt was playin’ the Cowboys were gonna be in the game…

What’s your Team Name and what’s the meaning behind it?
Big Ole Cock … well I am a Gamecock and my ode to University of South Carolina football is called “Just a Big Ole Cock” (that they play in the stadium from time to time and is a bit if a Gamecock fan favorite) … so seems pretty natural.
What player(s) will be the best in Fantasy this year?
Always gotta think running backs who score… but I love goin’ after Deebo and qbs like Mahomes and Rodgers.

8 – 12 and all artists, songwriters & music industry folks… good crew of folks who know very little about the X’s & O’s… but love the game!
When is your draft and what are your league’s plans for it?
In a week and we have to do remote because of all of our crazy schedules… hell I am gonna be in Italy for the draft.
Have you ever won a championship?
Unfortunately no… Fantasy Football Playoffs are a juggernaut… gotta be healthy and have the right match ups… which I have never had!

Buffalo Bills – Young, aggressive upstart team with a wide-open offense. Devoted fan base that has stayed loyal through some tough times (and cold weather!) over the years.
