On this date in 2001 Jack Black and Kyle Gass brought the first-ever extensive Tenacious D tour to the old location of Higher Ground in Winooski, Vermont. The show concluded with an encore that saw Phish keyboardist Page McConnell join the pair for a Beatles medley and more.
McConnell emerged after a set heavy on material from Tenacious D’s self-titled debut album, which came out a few days earlier and features Page on keyboards. First up from the Tenacious D and Page McConnell pairing was a cover of Queen’s “Flash.” Page also lent a hand on the D original “Wonderboy” as well as the show-closing medley of The Beatles’ “You Never Give Me Your Money” and “The End.”
