Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band stopped at Lyric Performing Arts Center on Tuesday for the first of two shows at the Baltimore, MD venue originally scheduled to take place in June. The former Beatles drummer was joined by a Starr-studded lineup featuring Steve Lukather (Toto), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette, and Hamish Stuart (Average White Band) for a set of Beatles classics, solo tunes, crowd-pleasing covers, and hits from the band members’ respective catalogs.

The band started the show with “Matchbox” by Carl Perkins, followed by a Ringo original, “It Don’t Come Easy”, the drummer’s first hit after The Beatles disbanded. Next came the Fab Four’s “What Goes On”, which Ringo co-wrote with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Prog rock keyboard icon Edgar Winter took the lead on “Free Ride”, an Edgar Winter Group original, which kicked off a string of songs from the band members’ back catalogs including Toto’s “Rosanna” (featuring Steve Lukather), Average White Band’s “Pick Up the Pieces” (featuring Hamish Stuart), and Men at Work’s “Down Under” (featuring Colin Hay). Ringo then took it back to the doo-wop of the 1950s and ’60s that helped inspire The Beatles with The Shirelles‘ “Boys” before wrapping up the first segment with his solo song “I’m the Greatest” and the most famous song he sang with The Beatles, “Yellow Submarine”, which had “Day Tripper” and “Please Please Me” teases in the intro.

Sir Richard Starkey then left the stage to give his bandmates a time to shine starting with “Cut the Cake” by Average White Band featuring Hamish Stuart. Gregg Bissonette then played a drum solo during Edgar Winter Group’s “Frankenstein“—one of the most iconic drum solos of the classic rock era—with allusions to Rush‘s “YYZ”, Led Zeppelin‘s “Rock and Roll”, and Beatles songs including “Come Together”, “Rain”, “What You’re Doing”, “Ticket To Ride”, and “The End”. Starr then returned for a pair of originals, “Octopus’s Garden”, the second song ever written by the drummer and the last song released by The Beatles featuring him on lead vocals, and “Back Off Boogaloo”.

Ringo highlighted his bandmates once more with a sequence of fan favorites including “Overkill” by Men at Work featuring Colin Hay, “Africa” by Toto featuring Steve Lukather, and “Work to Do” by The Isley Brothers featuring Hamish Stuart. The Beatles’ “I Wanna Be Your Man” kept the crowd’s spirits high, leading into Chuck Berry‘s “Johnny B. Goode”, which featured Edgar Winter. One more set of tunes from his bandmates’ acclaimed catalogs including Men at Work’s “Who Can It Be Now?” and Toto’s “Hold the Line” then preceded the last Ringo song of the night, “Photograph”, the last cover, “Act Naturally” by Johnny Russell, and the last Beatles song, “With a Little Help From My Friends”, an appropriate end to an evening full of collaboration.
