Railroad Earth Announces Departure Of Bassist Andrew Altman

48

Bassist Andrew Altman will part ways with Railroad Earth after the band’s Horn O’Plenty concerts on November 25 and 26 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Altman cited the desire to step away from touring in a note he penned announcing the decision shared by Railroad Earth.

The bassist joined Railroad Earth in 2010 following the departure of Johnny Grubb. Altman is the band’s third bassist as Dave Von Dollen co-founded RRE in 2001 and was replaced by Grubb in 2003. Andrew contributed to the jamgrass act’s self-titled 2010 studio album, 2014’s Last Of The Outlaws and the recently released LP All For The Song.

Read the note from Andrew Altman regarding his departure below:

“After 13 fun-filled years, the time has come for me to take a step back from full-time touring. Making music for a live audience still remains the great thrill of my life and the guys in Railroad Earth continue to inspire me every time we take the stage. However, the pandemic hiatus brought with it an opportunity to build a stronger relationship with my family and that has started to outweigh the demands of frequent travel. I’m so proud of everything that we have accomplished together in RRE and I know they have many great years of music still ahead. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone in the band, crew, and of course the incredibly supportive hobo community for taking a chance on me all those years ago. These experiences have truly changed my life and I’m hoping all our paths continue to cross in the future.”

Railroad Earth has yet to name a replacement for Altman. The 11th annual Horn O’Plenty shows will take place at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on November 25 and 26. RRE’s two performances at Strings & Sol in Mexico between December 7 and 11 are the only gigs on the books for the band following Horn O’Plenty.
