The Flaming Lips Prep Massive ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’ 20th-Anniversary Reissue [Audio]

“Do You Realize??” The Flaming Lips‘ masterpiece Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots turns 20 this year? The psychedelic art-rockers will celebrate the album’s birthday with an expansive 20th-anniversary reissue out digitally on November 25th (Black Friday), with a deluxe 5LP vinyl box set arriving on April 14th, 2023.

The 6CD and digital releases will include the album’s original 11 songs in addition to over 50 previously unreleased tracks and other rare recordings including B-sides, demos, remixes, radio sessions, two live concerts, and other rarities from the album’s era. Vinyl copies will include more than 30 of the same, with whatever doesn’t fit in the box set arriving on standalone vinyl releases throughout 2023. Nuggets from the extra tracks include an instrumental version of “Do You Realize??”, covers of Radiohead’s “Knives Out”, Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, and Pink Floyd’s “Lucifer Sam”, and much more.

Along with Thursday’s announcement, The Flaming Lips shared a rendition of “Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell” recorded live during a radio session. The other live material found on the Yoshimi 20th-anniversary reissue includes a banter-filled private 2002 performance for winners of a radio contents in Boston as well as a full-fledged live show at The Forum in London in 2003.

Following the vinyl release, The Flaming Lips will play two Yoshimi anniversary shows with the band performing the full album front-to-back. The first is set for April 28th at Eventim Apollo in London followed by a gig at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on May 25th.
