Warren Haynes Confirms Christmas Jam 2022

48

A tradition will resume on December 10, when guitarist Warren Haynes will present Christmas Jam 2022. The annual benefit concert, which has been on hiatus since 2018, will take place at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Haynes’ hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.

Warren Haynes founded Christmas Jam in 1988 as a chance to assemble fellow musicians in town for the holidays to perform together and raise funds for local charities. The first show was held at the tiny 45 Cherry club. As Haynes’ notoriety increased with his joining The Allman Brothers Band and forming Gov’t Mule, Christmas Jam moved to bigger venues with nationally-touring acts added as part of each lineup. In 1998, Warren and his wife, Stefani Scamardo, began to donate all proceeds from each concert to Habitat for Humanity.

Asheville Civic Center began hosting Christmas Jam in 2001 with the most recent installment presented on December 7 and 8, 2018. The marathon concert was typically a one-night event but was expanded to two nights in 2018 to celebrate Christmas Jam’s 30th anniversary as it was in 2008 and 2013 for its 20th and 25th anniversaries respectively.

Bob Weir, Trey Anastasio, Alison Krauss, Ann Wilson, Dave Grohl, Jason Isbell, Widespread Panic, The Avett Brothers, Ani DiFranco, The Allman Brothers Band, Dave Matthews and Margo Price are among those who have performed at past Christmas Jam benefits. Haynes usually kicks off the evening with solo performances and has Gov’t Mule or his current project at the time headline. Special guests are part of each lineup in addition to full bands. Warren pals Kevn Kinney, Mike Barnes and Ron Holloway have played many Christmas Jams over the years.

The lineup and on-sale information for Christmas Jam 2022 will be revealed at a later date.
