Windwaker Part Ways With Vocalist Will King, Announce Replacement

Melbourne heavy favourites Windwaker are in the midst of a major lineup change, following the sudden departure of their vocalist, Will King. King announced his exit from the band on social media, revealing the decision was triggered by a desire to pursue a “greater sense of purpose”.

In a statement on social media, King wrote: “To my Windwaker family, there comes a time in ones search when curiosity forms a profound calling, met with the intuitive hunch of moments passed.”

King continued: “This feeling is rare and fleeting, only to arise with such truth and conviction just a few times over the course of our lives. Ignore such a calling and a greater sense of purpose begins to slip you.”

King went on to say that a new journey awaits him, which requires his “complete, undivided attention.” He described it as a “a life in service to others,” in the field of psychology. “Before I am fully able to grasp what that means, I must first seek to understand self,” King said.

“I am immensely grateful for music. The places I have been. The things I have experienced. The unique opportunities presented to me. The various connections made. The stories and memories so many of us share together. Truly, I appreciate every single one of you, and will always look back on this chapter of my life as laying the foundations for the person I am yet to become. I owe it to all of you, for giving me a chance, lending your ears, time and energy, keeping my flame alive in the eternal chase that is pursuing a meaningful experience.

“You all continue to inspire in me a necessary [un] learning, to better care for myself and others, and that is a debt that i could never repay so, a million times, thank you! Enjoy the music. Its been love.”

As for the Windies, they’ve wasted no time in announcing King’s replacement, with their original singer Liam Guinane rejoining the fold, kicking off with their forthcoming tours with both Northlane and Enter Shikari.

“You might remember his voice from such tracks as ‘Colourless’, ‘The Sitch’, and everyone’s favourite Windy bridge in ‘My Empire’,” the band wrote in their own statement on social media.

“He’s an old friend, was an integral part of the band in our inception, and a part of our identity. Our tours with Enter Shikari and Northlane are still going ahead as planned, and we are more than excited to welcome Liam back into the band at these shows. Windwaker is in the most creative and healthy space it has ever been in and we are currently working on what we know is our best material to date. Stay tuned for content… We would like to wish [Will] all the best.”
