Craig Finn brought his solo band The Uptown Controllers with Joe Russo on drums to Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday. The Hold Steady frontman offered an impassioned performance of “The Amarillo Kid” just hours after having to cancel his October tour dates due to a band member testing positive for COVID-19.

Finn took to social media to announce the cancelation on Wednesday and thanked Russo — who has worked in the studio with Craig — for “being available in a pinch.” Read the full note from Craig below:

As Finn noted, the group made good on their engagement as musical guests on Seth Meyers, which he revealed was the band’s “favorite late night show” in a social media post today. For the Late Night performance, Craig Finn and The Uptown Controllers delivered “The Amarillo Kid” from the singer-songwriter’s 2022 solo album, A Legacy Of Rentals. The smart performance saw Finn showing off the copious storytelling skills he’s known for along with a tight showing from The Uptown Controllers with a locked in beat from Russo, who drumed for Finn on A Legacy Of Rentals.
