King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Continue Prolific Ways With ‘Laminated Denim’ Album

22

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released yet another new album, Laminated Denim. The album is the Australian rock band’s 22nd overall and fourth released so far this year.

Today’s release comes on the heels of Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava, which was issued five days ago. The initial seed of Laminated Denim dates back to 2019 when the band prepped Made In Timeland, an album consisting of two 15-minute tracks originally intended to be played at set break during the band’s marathon concerts at Red Rocks that were initially scheduled for 2020.

Made In Timeland was released as a limited edition vinyl record sold in March 2022 at their marathon hometown Return Of The Curse Of Timeland concert. After multiple postponements due to the pandemic, the Red Rocks marathon concerts were pushed out to the past two nights.

“We sat on Made In Timeland for so long that we started to get annoyed, and eventually just released it earlier this year,” said frontman Stu Mackenzie. “We suddenly thought, ‘Great – what are we going to do for the intermission at Red Rocks now?’ Basically, we put together an album that was a kind of Made In Timeland Part Two.”

Premiered during the set breaks of their just-held shows at Red Rocks, the two Laminated Denim tracks were played in sync with video screens showing a clock counting down. A vinyl edition of the record was also made available at the Red Rocks concerts featuring actual embroidered denim sleeves created by Jason Galea.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release their next album, Changes on October 28. The three October releases follow the double LP, Omnium Gatherum, which was issued in April, and Made In Timeland.
