My Morning Jacket Releases ‘Live From RCA Studio A (Acoustic)’ Digitally Featuring Intimate Jim James Performances

My Morning Jacket issued Live From RCA Studio A (Acoustic) today on all DSPs and streaming services. The seven-track collection consists of frontman Jim James playing cozy versions of songs featured on the band’s self-titled 2021 studio album at Nashville’s historic RCA Studios last summer and was first put out as a Record Store Day vinyl exclusive earlier this year. Additionally, the band unveiled live performance videos of the session captured by Danny Clinch.

“In late August 2021, we were set to record a full-band live session at RCA Studio A when one of our band members tested positive for Covid,” explained Jim James. “With a full film and audio crew set to record in this beautiful and historic studio, we didn’t want to let the moment go to waste, so we decided to try out acoustic versions of songs from our new self-titled album. Every song you see or hear from this session was me giving it a go solo for the very first time, with a wonderful audience consisting of our road crew as well as filmmaker Danny Clinch and his crew.”

Jim James worked through such My Morning Jacet cuts as “Lucky To Be Alive,” “In Color,” “Regularly Scheduled Programming” and “Out Of Range, Pt. 2.” The Kentucky-bred guitarist/vocalist also delivered stripped-down takes on “Love Love Love,” “Never In The Real World” and “Complex.”

My Morning Jacket’s MMJ Live Vol 2: Chicago 2021 arrives on vinyl one week from today on Friday, October 21 via ATO Records. The second installment of the MMJ Live vinyl series documents the group’s November 11, 2021 show at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. Next up for My Morning Jacket is a hometown Halloween celebration at Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center on Saturday, October 29.
