Perpetual Groove Welcomes Vocalist Ansley Stewart At Ardmore Music Hall

40

Perpetual Groove brought their fall tour to the Philadelphia area last night for a concert at Ardmore Music Hall. The quartet brought out old friend Ansley Stewart to add vocals on two songs during their 90-minute main set on Thursday.

Guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald, bassist Adam Perry and drummer Darren Stanley started the night with “A. Retro” off their self-titled 2019 studio album. “A. Retro” bled into an adventurous take on LiveLoveDie standout “Crapshoot.” PGroove then delivered an emotional-laden version of “Out Here,” their latest studio single, which actually dates back to the mid-2000s.

Atlanta-based vocalist Ansley Stewart made her first appearance of the night after “Out Here” in dueting with Butler on a cover of Isaac Hayes’ “Do Your Thing.” The four-piece then went it alone on oldies “Crockett” and “Stealy Man.” Next, Brock his bandmates through the funky “TTFPJ” before Stewart returned to accompany Butler in singing “Only Always.”

Perpetual Groove fit a take on Butthole Surfers’ “Pepper” within both parts of “Sun Dog” as their encore at Ardmore Music Hall. Stream an audience recording of last night’s show taped by Rich Stoler below:
