Lawrence led The Late Show Band through an infectiously funky cover of the Stevie Wonder classic “Higher Ground.” The Late Show With Stephen Colbert shared video of the performance as part of their Commercial Breakdown web series.

“Higher Ground” originally appears on Stevie’s 1973 album, Innervisions. For their Late Show performance, Lawrence’s Clyde Lawrence handled the funky Clavinet line and sang the first verse before kicking things over to his sister Gracie Lawrence, who showed off her powerful pipes.

Late Show Band leader Louis Cato handled the tricky bassline and had a powerhouse vocal showing of his own along with teaming with Gracie to harmonize on the choruses. Additionally, The Late Show Band horns delivered spirited solos to bring the song home.
