Never-before-seen footage from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ historic 1997 residency at San Francisco’s Fillmore has been shared from the late musician’s vault. Watch The Fillmore House Band mini-documentary below:
The short film arrives in advance of Live At The Fillmore (1997), a live album featuring highlights from the last six shows of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ legendary 20-show run in San Francisco. Live At The Fillmore (1997) is due out via Warner Records in various formats including vinyl on November 25.
Petty & The Heartbreakers sold out all 20 concerts held at the Fillmore between January 10 and February 7, 1997 earning the moniker the “Fillmore House Band.” The group switched up the setlist each night as they mixed classics, deep cuts and covers of songs from artists who inspired them such as Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” J.J. Cale’s “Crazy Mama” and The Rolling Stones’ “Time is On My Side.” Additionally, Petty and his bandmates shared the stage with The Byrds’ co-founder Roger McGuinn and iconic blues musician John Lee Hooker.
“We all feel this might be the highpoint of our time together as a group… It’s going to be hard to get us off this stage tonight,” Petty told the audience as the band emerged for the last night of the residency. The Fillmore House Band compiles footage from the run along with photos and animation. 33 1/3’s Alexander Peacock directed, produced and edited the mini-doc as well as provided narration.
