Actor Oscar Isaac reunited with Marcus Mumford onstage at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Monday night. Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith was also among the parade of guests who accompanied Mumford during the concert in support of his debut solo album.
Marcus Mumford began the evening with solo acoustic versions of the Mumford & Sons songs “Awake My Soul” and “The Cave.” Isaac then emerged to join Mumford on “Fare Thee Well (Dink’s Song).” The pair recorded the traditional song for the soundtrack to the Coen brothers’ 2013 film starring Isaac, Inside Llewyn Davis. Isaac stuck around to duet on another traditional song, “Hang Me, Oh Hang Me.”

After a short changeover, Mumford retook the stage with his band, which includes Dawes drummer and Taylor Goldsmith’s brother Griffin Goldsmith. They then performed Mumford’s solo album, self-titled, in sequence in its entirety. Singer-songwriter Monica Martin reprised the role she played on the album, assisting on “Go In Light.”
The encore began with opening act The A’s – Mountain Man’s Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso) and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (Daughter Of Swords) – joining Mumford on a cover of Taylor Swift’s “cowboy like me.” Mumford then brought out one of the tour’s frequent guests, his Mumford & Sons bandmate Ben Lovett for stripped-down takes on “I Will Wait” and “Ditmas,” as well as Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.”
Mumford and Lovett were then joined by Taylor Goldsmith, Oscar Isaac, Monica Martin and The A’s for The New Basement Tapes’ “When I Get My Hands on You” and “Kansas City.” Both Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith were part of The New Basement Tapes project along with Mumford, Elvis Costello, Jim James, Rihannon Giddens and others. T Bone Burnett spearheaded the recording sessions that utilized lyrics written by Bob Dylan in 1967. Taylor Goldsmith, Marcus Mumford and Dylan are credited with co-writing “When I Get My Hands on You” and “Kansas City.”
