Chicago’s The Salt Shed Reveals Initial Lineup For Indoor Venue

27

The indoor portion of new Chicago venue The Salt Shed will open its doors next February to start hosting concerts. Operators of the venue revealed the first wave of concerts at the indoor performance space, including shows featuring The Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, The Roots, The Wood Brothers, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and more.

The Salt Shed is located at the historic Morton Salt Building on Chicago’s North Side. Outdoor shows were held for the first time this past summer at the venue’s outdoor Fairgrounds space. Both indoor and outdoor venues are operated by 16″ On Center which runs a number of additional Chicago venues such as Thalia Hall, Beauty Bar and the Empty Bottle.

Tove Lo and support act Slayyyter will play what currently stands as opening night of the recently renovated indoor space on Friday, February 17, 2023. Big Gigantic performs at The Salt Shed the following evening, February 18. Other notable concerts coming to the space include Iggy Pop (March 10), The Roots (March 18), The Flaming Lips (May 5), The Wood Brothers (May 11), Tyler Childers (June 8), King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (June 11 – 13) and The Mountain Goats with The Hold Steady (July 1).

“One of the things that really excites me about this project is continuing to work with the artists we’ve grown up with,” explained 16″ on Center’s Bruce Finkelman. “These are musicians that started at the Empty Bottle, grew to Thalia Hall, and we now look forward to hosting at the Salt Shed. I remember the Flaming Lips at the Empty Bottle way back in 1994, stopping their show mid-set to walk across a sea of fans and play a solo set on a rinky dink piano that I think came with the bar. I have never experienced a crowd so captivated, and it’s a moment that reminds me why I have the best job in the world. It’s just one of the many stories of live music magic that make our places so special.”

Tickets for the first wave of indoor shows go on sale this Friday, November 18 at 10 a.m. CT. View a full list of the concerts along with ticketing links below:
