“I guess I’m a rock star now!” Dolly Parton declared at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday. Parton joined the 2022 Rock Hall class in Los Angeles, and what better way to celebrate her newfound rock stardom than by sharing the stage with Rob Halford of Judas Priest on her timeless “Jolene”?

The show-closing crescendo of the evening also featured contributions from Brandi CarlileP!nkZac Brown BandSimon Le Bon (Duran Duran), and Annie Lenox (Eurythmics), the latter two of whom were also inducted (Judas Priest fell short of induction—again—but was given the Musical Excellence honor alongside Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis). The singers handed off vocal duties in a musical baton race, with each of Dolly’s classmates and contemporaries getting a chance to pay tribute to her influence on their wildly different styles.

“This is a very special night for me,” Parton said during her speech. “I’m sure a lot of you knew that back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t feel like I had done enough to deserve that. And I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that. But I’m just so honored and so proud to be here tonight.”

Parton’s bewilderment at her inclusion in the Cleveland rock institution is well established, with the ten-time Grammy winner even trying to remove her name from contention. After the Hall denied the 76-year-old Book Lady’s request, she leaned into the honor and even pledged to record a rock album. “If I’m gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I’m gonna have to earn it,” she explained on Saturday.

Prior to the all-star “Jolene”, Parton updated fans on her progress by debuting a new song—a controversial move at the Greatest Hits CD-come alive that is the Rock Hall inductions—titled “Rockin’”. Dolly furthered her Rock Hall bona fides when it was recently revealed that she is trying to reunite Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin for the project.

This year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction class included some other curveballs such as a performance featuring Eminem and Lionel Richie alongside Pat Benetar, Eurythmics, and Carly Simon. Other unique musical matchups for Saturday’s ceremony in L.A.—which the Hall confirmed will join fellow host cities New York and Cleveland on a rotating basis—included Ritchie and Dave Grohl performing “Easy” and Slim Shady with Ed Sheeran on “Stan” as well as Steven Tyler on “Sing For The Moment”.

Watch Dolly Parton perform “Jolene” with an array of guests at Saturday’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A TV special of the ceremony will air on HBO on November 19th.
