The James Gang reunited for “One Last Ride” during Joe Walsh’s VetsAid 2022 benefit concert at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Special guest Dave Grohl joined Walsh and company to help close the set with the James Gang Rides Again favorite “Funk #49.”
The classic James Gang power trio format — Walsh on guitar, bassist Dale Peters and drummer Jimmy Fox — along with keyboardist Mark Avsec and a trio of backing vocalists kicked off the show with four songs James Gang hadn’t played since 2006: “Stop,” “You’re Gonna Need Me,” “Tend My Garden” and “Asshtonpark,” as per SetlistFM. Walsh then led the band through The Gang classic “Walk Away” ahead of more bust outs in “Midnight Man” (FTP since 2006) and “Collage” (FTP since 2001).

Dave Grohl helped The Breeders close out their set with a take on the Kim Deal-co-penned ‘Surfer Rosa’ favorite.
The medley from the James Gang Rides Again, “The Bomber: Closet Queen / Bolero / Cast Your Fate to the Wind” then proceeded the final number, “Funk #49,” which saw James Gang — who recently came back together to perform at the Taylor Hawkins tribute in London — welcoming Foo Fighters‘ Grohl. Joe introduced Dave saying, “Ladies and Gentlemen, a guy couldn’t ask for a better friend…please welcome Dave Grohl.” Dave came out and hopped on an additional kit for a double drum attack with Fox on the band’s 1970 hit.
