Moon Taxi Taps Molly Tuttle On New Single Honoring Bowling Green, Kentucky

Nashville-based artists Moon Taxi and Molly Tuttle teamed up for a new single, “Evergreen.” The song is a tribute to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the hometown of Moon Taxi guitarist Spencer Thomson.

In December 2021, an EF-3 tornado struck Bowling Green, leveling buildings and sadly leaving 12 dead. While Thomson’s family and friends were spared, seeing images of the destruction inspired Spencer to begin writing.

“The most affecting thing was just seeing pictures of streets I’ve been down hundreds of times, or buildings I’ve passed, that were wiped out or gone,” Thomson told Garden & Gun, who premiered the track.

“It’s mostly about the people of not only Bowling Green, but all of Kentucky,” Thomson continued. “If it was a love letter to anything, it’s the spirit of the people there. And that’s what the second verse is largely about with the lyric, ‘Something here helps keep us young.’”

Thomson sent his lyrics to Moon Taxi keyboardist Wes Bailey who composed the melody and chord progression. Moon Taxi frontman Trevor Terndrup sang lead over sparse instrumentation and the band invited Molly Tuttle — who was recently nominated for two Grammys — to add harmony vocals and guitar.
