Taylor Swift Responds To Ticketmaster Debacle As Justice Department Opens Investigation

Taylor Swift spoke out on the ongoing kerfuffle around Ticketmaster’s handling of selling tickets to her 2023 The Eras Tour. The New York Times also reported that the U.S. Department Of Justice has opened up an investigation into Live Nation, the company that owns Ticketmaster.

The Justice Department’s decision to investigate Live Nation — which has been called for by multiple lawmakers — was reportedly made before the Taylor Swift/Ticketmaster debacle, which began on Wednesday when a massive amount of fans trying to purchase pre-sale tickets caused widespread problems with Ticketmaster’s website, drawing the ire of Swift fans who weren’t able to purchase tickets. Adding fuel to the fire, Ticketmaster canceled the public on-sale for tickets that was supposed to begin this morning.

Swift finally responded to the escalating fiasco in a statement posted to social media which appears to have been taken down. Read portions of Taylor’s response via CNN Business below:

“It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans. It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.
I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them.”

Swift also noted that she was trying “figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward” and added, “To those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to get together and sing these songs.”
