The Runaway Grooms Return With ‘Jenny,’ 1st Single Off New Studio Release ‘This Road’

31

The Runaway Grooms will release their third studio album, This Road, on February 10. The Colorado-based rock band premiered the lead single, “Jenny,” exclusively via JamBase.

The Runaway Grooms create an eclectic blend of American roots rock through the songwriting and musicianship of guitarist Adam Tobin, keyboardist Cody Scott, bassist Zach Gillam, drummer Justin Bisset and guitarist Zac Cialek. The band tracked This Road while on the road at Paloma Sound Studios in Memphis, with former Ardent Studio engineer Jeremy Horn. The pending release follows The Runaway Grooms’ debut album, 2020’s Tied To The Sun and its follow-up, 2021’s Violet Lane.

“Jenny” is one of five songs making up This Road, along with “Mister Ford,” “Here I Come Again,” “Heartwork” and the title track. Regarding “Jenny,” which opens This Road, the band shared the following statement:

“’Jenny’ is both a folk rock and hard rock song, displaying a dramatic rise and fall of emotional instrumentalism and lyricism. Adam Tobin (lyricist), wrote the words as a letter from his deceased grandmother to his mother and is a story about love, life, family, and the passing of time. Like all of the songs recorded on the new album (This Road), we strategically recorded ‘Jenny’ mostly live in the studio in order to capture the organic and explosive energy that we like to bring to our live shows. The song captures the dramatic interplay of life and death, and reminds us of some of life’s precious truths.”

Recorded live in the studio in an effort to recreate The Runaway Grooms’ energetic live performances, “Jenny” showcases Cielek’s soaring lap steel guitar alongside Scott’s B3 organ swells and expressive piano playing.
