Watch The Breeders Enlist Dave Grohl For Huge Version Of Pixies’ ‘Gigantic’ At VetsAid 2022

The Breeders were among the Ohio-bred performers at Joe Walsh’s VetsAid benefit concert on Sunday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The Dayton-born alt-rockers welcomed Dave Grohl for a cover of the Pixies’ “Gigantic” to close their set.

The Breeders’ frontwoman Kim Deal is a founding member of the Pixies and performed in the band up until they disbanded in 1993 and again when they reunited in 2004 until leaving the group in 2013. She founded The Breeders as a Pixies side project in 1989 with her sister Kelley Deal and others. Both the Pixies and The Breeders were a big influence on Dave Grohl and Nirvana.

The Breeders set that saw the band leaning heavily on their landmark 1993 album, Last Splash, offering favorites like “Cannonball,” “No Aloha,” “Divine Hammer,” “Saints” and more. Following “Cannonball,” drummer Jim Macpherson came out from behind the kit to introduce Grohl.

Dave emerged with guitar in hand and Kim switched duties with bassist Josephine Wiggs to perform “Gigantic,” a Kim Deal-co-write with Pixies’ frontman Black Francis sung by Deal and appearing on the Pixies’ 1988 debut LP, Surfer Rosa. For the VetsAid performance, Grohl added guitar and harmonized with Kim on the choruses.
