Bowery Presents Has A New Outdoor Venue In The Boston Area

43

Live music promotion company The Bowery Presents’ Bowery Boston arm has a new space for outdoor concerts in the Boston area. The Stage at Suffolk Downs in East Boston will start hosting general admission concerts next spring.

The infield of the former thoroughbred race track can accommodate up to 8,500 attendees. Located at 525 McClellan Highway, the new venue comes from Bowery Presents in partnership with The HYM Investment Group. While Bowery operates Roadrunner, Royale and The Sinclar in the Boston area, this marks the company’s first outdoor venue in Greater Boston. The 3,500-capacity Roadrunner, which opened this past March, was previously the biggest Bowery Boston venue. The Bowery Presents is an AEG Presents company.

“The Bowery Presents has always focused on creating and operating venues where both fans and artists alike can have a great experience,” noted Josh Bhatti, who runs The Bowery Presents’ Boston office. “We are confident Suffolk Downs will join Roadrunner, The Sinclair, and Royale as a beloved concert venue in Greater Boston, delivering on our commitment to keep the music first.”

Suffolk Downs has previously hosted a handful of concerts. The Beatles’ second and final Boston area performance took place at the track on August 18, 1966. Jackson 5, Radiohead and Blink-182 are among other acts that have played Suffolk Downs. Competitor Live Nation’s outdoor venues in the Boston area include Leader Bank Pavilion (5,000 capacity) and Xfinity Center (19,900 capacity).

Look for the opening lineup to be revealed in the coming weeks.
