Father & Child Reunion: Dave Grohl & Daughter Violet Cover Janis Ian’s ‘At Seventeen’

Talent clearly runs in the Grohl family as Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl‘s daughter Violet Grohl displayed impressive vocal chops on a tender cover of Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen.” Violet’s rendition was the fourth offering of Dave Grohl and producer/keyboardist Greg Kurstin‘s 2022 “The Hanukkah Sessions” video series.

Violet Grohl is no stranger to the stage as she has performed with Foo Fighters multiple times, took part in both Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts and contributed to last year’s “Hanukkah Sessions.” The 16-year-old both sang and played guitar on “At Seventeen” backed by horns, Kurstin on piano and her father on drums.

“Born Janis Eddy Fink, a 23-year-old Janis Ian wrote one of the all time classic coming of age anthems ‘At Seventeen’—here it is as interpreted by Violet Grohl,” read a caption accompanying the video. The performance, like all 2022 “The Hanukkah Sessions” videos, was filmed at Largo in Los Angeles on December 5. The series started in 2020 by Grohl and Kurstin features covers of songs by Jewish artists for each night of the holiday.
