Fireside Collective Welcomes Jon Stickley, Jason Carter & Lyndsay Pruett At Holiday Hootenanny

49

Asheville-based string band Fireside Collective kicked off the 11th annual Holiday Hootenanny benefit concert on Sunday, December 18 at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse with a guest-filled set. The quintet was joined by guitarist Jon Stickley as well as fiddlers Lyndsay Pruett and Jason Carter for portions of their performance.

Proceeds from the evening organized by TDawg were donated to the Atlanta Habitat For Humanity. The Jon Stickley Trio, Rev. Jeff Mosier & Friends and Jim Lauderdale were among others who performed sets at this year’s Holiday Hootenanny. Early installments of the benefit featured the late Col. Bruce Hampton. Mosier dedicated his set to Hampton.

Fireside Collective — Jesse Iaquinto (mandolin and vocals), Joe Cicero (guitar and vocals), Alex Genova (banjo and vocals), Carson White (bass and vocals) and Tommy Maher (dobro and vocals) — opened with staple “The Devil’s On The Hillside” after an introduction from emcee Wildman Steve. The band then worked through “Back To Caroline” off 2020’s Elements and “Let It Ride” from their recently released Across The Divide LP.

Jon Stickley emerged a few songs later to accompany Fireside Collective on Iaquinto’s “Won’t You Think Of Me Sometime” and an expansive “Darlin’ Corey.” Then, Stickley’s bandmate, Lyndsay Pruett and Jason Carter added double fiddle action for Bill and James Monroe’s “Love Please Come Home.” Pruett and Carter stuck around to contribute to Fireside Collective’s set-closing cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias.”
