MonoNeon brought his signature brand of Day-Glo funkery to S.O.B.’s in New York on Tuesday.

The performance at the Manhattan club celebrating its 40th anniversary, also known as Sounds of Brazil, came at the end of a banner year for the viral bassist. In 2022, he released three albums including the appropriately-titled live document, MonoNeon Farts Live In Memphis!, as well as the studio discs Put on Earth for You and There Goes That Man Again Turning Water into Gin & Juice. This year also witnessed the one-time Prince collaborator team up with Fender for a signature bass and, much more on-brand, with The Fart Pedal for his own flatulating effects pedal.

On Tuesday, MonoNeon came to S.O.B.’s hungry to perform, and possibly also hungry for food. He loaded his setlist with many of his culinary compositions, including the opening “Hot Cheetos” as well as “Banana Peel” and “Basquait and Skittles”. He also got to flex his fart pedal with “Fartin’” and soared with “Just Getting High” followed by “Superman” before closing out with “Life is a Glittery Fu¢kery”.

The bassist will wrap his year with a pair of shows alongside George Clinton, first at House of Blues Boston on Friday prior to ringing in 2023 at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
