Goose followed two Goosemas shows at the 6,500-capacity 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado on Friday and Saturday nights with a concert Sunday at the more intimate confines of the 625-capacity Fox Theatre in Boulder. The Fox show was a Conscious Alliance benefit concert and the band treated the audience to a few setlist augmentations and premiered a new song entitled “Mr. Action.”
Set one kicked off with “Yeti” infused with Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” The band then dropped into “Jive I,” followed by the original arrangement of “Echo Of A Rose,” which was last played on November 7, 2021. A 20-minute “Earthinling Or Alien?” set up the set-closing cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain.”
The group came back to the stage after set break. They then debuted “Mr. Action,” which showcased guitarist Rick Mitarotonda’s fiery fretwork and Peter Anspach’s skillful keyboard embellishments. Following the debut, Mitarotonda commented, “That’s is a new piece called ‘Mr. Action.’” Next came the first “All I Need” played in its original uptempo arrangement for the first time since Halloween 2021.
The set progressed with Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed & Painless,” which was dotted with “Axel F” teases, stretching out into a lengthy jam before transitioning into “Spirit Of The Dark Horse.” The band’s fourth attempt at DEVO’s “Whip It” was another surprise addition to the setlist with a subsequent “So Ready” serving as the final song of the set.
Goose’s three-show Colorado run ended with a three-song encore. First up was “Elmeg The Wise.” Their first performance of the Grateful Dead’s “Brokedown Palace” since June 18, 2021 came in the second slot. Finally, Goose burned up the Fox with “Disco Inferno.”
