“TABoose is the gift that keeps giving!” wrote fan Dave Ginz on Goose Facebook in response to the band posting pro-shot video of their set at War Memorial Arena in Syracuse, New York from Friday, November 18, 2022. Ginz is right on the money with the latest video share giving viewers the chance to watch a phenomenal set highlighted by an otherworldly “Madhuvan” collaboration featuring special guest Trey Anastasio that spanned nearly 22 minutes.

TABoose Stat Geekery: Trey Anastasio Band & Goose Tour By The Numbers
The penultimate stop of Trey Anastasio Band and Goose’s eight-show joint tour began with the latter’s 90-minute performance. Goose kicked off the frame with “Slow Ready,” the groovy and plodding version of staple “So Ready.” The band consisting of guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach, percussionist Jeff Arevalo, drummer Ben Atkind and bassist Trevor Weekz patiently built the improv to a frothy peak and then dove into “Jive I” and “Jive Lee” from a trilogy that also includes “Jive II,” which went unplayed on TABoose Tour.
Goose followed “Jive Lee” with “Bob Don” on the same day the song appeared under its original name, “Undecided,” as the title track to a surprise studio EP. The five-piece then lit into the beloved “Factory Fiction” and took the tune that dates back to the Vasudo days deep.

Goose invited Trey Anastasio onstage to help close out the set. Starting the sit-in with the highly anticipated “Madhuvan” (or “Madhuvanastasio” as it has been called), Anastasio added perfectly to the song, throwing in little riffs and accents as Mitarotonda sang his way through.
Beginning the jam in a spacey motif, Anspach laid some vibraphone-infused piano down as the two guitarists explored the terrain. Starting up a descending progression on piano that the rest of the band quickly locked into, Anastasio led the way through a major-key section as Mitarotonda joined in for some spot-on harmonization work. Insistent playing from drummer Ben Atkind gradually increased the pace and intensity as the peak drew closer. Locking in on some twin sustain action, the dual-guitar attack shredded the classic Goose jam vehicle to pieces before quieting down into some tension/release runs. Undeniably the improvisational highlight of the night.
The quintet had one more treat in store to end their set. Anastasio stuck around as TAB drummer Russ Lawton emerged to guest on “Animal.” Lawton took over Arevalo’s rig on the shred-heavy finale with Jeff moving between Trevor and Rick to provide harmony vocals while switching between cowbell and tambourine.
