A Dope Sit-In: Lotus Welcomes Rob Compa At Higher Ground

Lotus stopped by Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday. The livetronica quintet brought out Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa for a song and also dusted off a Tycho cover.

Lotus – Luke Miller, Jesse Miller, Mike Greenfield, Chuck Morris and Tim Palmieri — launched their first set with “Middle Road” followed by “Bellweather.” The band then busted out their cover of Tycho’s “Awake,” last time played on September 22, 2018 at Colorado’s Mishawaka Amphitheater. Lotus then paired up “Pluck” — off their latest studio album, 2022’s Bloom & Recede — with the vintage “Spiritualize.” The band kept the classics rolling to wrap the first frame with “Hammerstrike.”

Lotus welcomed Rob Compa to help them kick off the second set. Lotus guitarist Tim Palmieri — who joined the band in 2021 — recently filled in for Compa at the North Beach Music Festival as Rob awaited the birth of his first child. At the time, Rob noted that Tim was one of his “all-time favorite guitarists.” At Higher Ground, the two axemen would team up on Bloom & Recede’s “Time Dilates.” Lotus then went it alone for Todd Terje’s “Inspector Norse” (Todd Terje) which encompassed “Plant Your Root.”

Next, Palmieri bit into his first “Mikesnack,” a song composed by longtime former Lotus guitarist Mike Rempel. From “Mikesnack,” the band flowed into their recently unveiled cover of the Bee Gees’ “You Should Be Dancing” which in turn segued into second set-closer, “Juggernaut.” Lotus returned to encore with “Land Of The Lush.”
