Brooklyn, NY-based indie folk-rock outfit Big Thief is serious about education. In a social media post on Thursday, the quartet—comprised of Berklee College of Music alums Adrianne Lenker (guitar, vocals), Buck Meek (guitar, backing vocals), Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums)—invited educators and their students to join the band at soundchecks throughout its upcoming tour.
“Dearest educators and students,” the post reads. “Big Thief is looking to bring an educational component to the touring process by offering open invitations for teachers to bring their students to our soundchecks on the upcoming 2023 US tour. Our hope is that students would be able to come see the soundcheck and ask questions and share in a discussion about creativity, music, playing shows, songwriting or whatever!”
“Teachers,” the invitation continues, “we would love to hear if you are interested in participating and how we can organize this so that it is of most benefit to your students. If you are interested in bringing your class to a soundcheck, and/or have any ideas that you think would help us get the ball rolling and make this experience as accessible and organized as possible, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [[email protected]].”
Big Thief is coming off of a big year in 2022 which saw the release of the band’s fifth studio album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You. The album netted the band a pair of nominations for the upcoming 2023 Grammy Awards including and Best Alternative Music Album (for the LP) and Best Alternative Music Performance (for “Certainly”).

The 2023 Big Thief U.S. tour is set to kick off on January 31st with a sold-out show at Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground and make its way to notable theaters around the eastern half of the country until the end of February. From there, the band will head overseas for a lengthy U.K./European tour scheduled throughout the month of April.
