Bruce Springsteen Mines Archives To Release Earliest Reunion Tour Concert Yet

37

The latest Bruce Springsteen live archival release, Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ, July 18, 1999, features the earliest show from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 1999 Reunion Tour to be issued as part of the series thus far. The choice is a fitting one considering The Boss and his longtime backing band will take the stage together for the first time in six years on February 1 to kick off their 2023 World Tour.

Springsteen put the E Street Band on hiatus from 1989 through the start of the Reunion tour to focus on solo gigs and performances with a different group of musicians. Their only collaboration during that period came in early 1995 to record new tracks for a greatest hits compilation. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band began the trek with a 36-show run through Europe before launching the North American leg with a 15-night stand at Continental Airlines Arena in their home state of New Jersey. July 18, 1999 was the second show of the run in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The 26-song setlist featured a mix of beloved favorites such as “Badlands,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,” “Jungleland,” “Born To Run” and “Thunder Road” alongside rarities including “Stand On It,” “I Wanna Be With You” and “Loose End.” Jon Altschiller mixed Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ, July 18, 1999 from the multitrack masters exclusively for this release. The performance is available for purchase via nugs.net in multiple formats including MP3, FLAC and CD.

“Stand On It” has been played live by The Boss just 42 times between its live debut on August 31, 1985 and most recent appearance on April 22, 2014. A studio version was released as the B-Side to “Glory Days” in 1985 and on the Tracks compilation in 1998.
