Dark Star Orchestra hosted the tenth annual Jam In The Sand at Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica over the weekend. The four-day Caribbean destination festival saw the Grateful Dead tribute act perform two sets on the beach for three nights, plus an afternoon Sunshine Set on the remaining day.
In addition to Dark Star Orchestra, Jam In The Sand featured two shows by Melvin Seals & JGB with John Kadlecik as well as two sets by Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass and a solo Keller set.
Throughout the weekend, attendees were able to enjoy their days relaxing on the beach or taking advantage of the resort’s all-inclusive amenities, which included landscaped gardens and pools with a water slide, unlimited drinks and gourmet dining, an enhanced water sport activities center, a paracourse with strategically placed workout stations, and more. The highlight, though, was the stacked lineup of Grateful Dead-centric performances each night.
At the end of the festival, attendees were invited to stick around the resort for the Gov’t Mule Island Exodus pre-party, featuring a performance from Duane Betts. The event, set to run through January 19th, will host performances by Gov’t Mule & Friends featuring special guests John Scofield, Robert Randolph, Anders Osborne, Jackie Greene, Ron Holloway, Rob Barraco, and more, plus Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening, Duane Betts, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, and Little Days. Unfortunately, Gov’t Mule frontman/guitarist Warren Haynes will sit out the festival due to concurrent cases of COVID and Influenza A.
